George Orwell 

Achievments :

- won a scholarship to Eton .
- resigned in 1927.
- first book was published down and out in Paris and London.
- his novels (Burmese days ),(A Clergyman's Daughter),(Keep the      Aspidistra Flying ),(A Homage to Catalonia) , (Coming Up For        Air),(Animal Farm),(1984) .
- Commissioned to write a book about poverty in northern England.
- Became literary editor for the Tribune (a left wing magazine).

Turning points :

- went to St Cyprian's school in Eastbourne - joined the British          police in Burma.
- decided to become a writer - worked as a teacher .
- got a part time job in a second hand bookshop.
- married Eileen.  
- fight in the Spanish Civil War - wounded in the throat -forced to      flee Spain .
- suffering from tuberculosis - worked for the BBC.
- married his second wife Sonia .
